How To Get Started and Save Money Quickly

Employers and agencies can achieve time and cost savings very quickly by joining the BIG UK LOCUM EXCHANGE

Step By Step Reduction Of Hectic Last Minute Locum Searches (Information For Employers):

  1. Go through the lists of all existing inducted and approved non-agency locum contacts you have in the respective professional group (e.g. nurses, physiotherapists, anaesthetists, GPs etc.)
  2. Contact all or some of them to see if they are still available and interested in working for you. Tell them at the same time that you are introducing a system involving an online calendar which they will be required to update themselves. Tell them that this will be a small effort for them whilst making it much easier for you to find out when they are really available and also greatly reducing the amount of futile phone calls to them as they will only be approached when they are really available.
  3. Please tell them that if they work for several hospitals or other employers occasionally they can inform these employers about this new online service and get them to use it as well. That way they will update only one availability calendar ("their" calendar) that all employers can access.
  4. Put all candidates who you think you will reasonably require and who have declared their continued interest in worling for you into the Online Database of our Large Locum Exchange and ask them to always update their availability correctly to save time for you and them and to avoid futile communications.
  5. If you feel you do not have enough locum candidates from the area you may go through older applications of people who have not yet been interviewed, inducted or approved, contact them, take them through the relevant procedures and put them on the database as well.
  6. You may also decide to place ads locally or nationally to attract more candidates in your pools of locums. Please note: Our Large UK Locum Exchange offers you the opportunity to place long-term ads for locums and permanent staff at very moderate rates.
  7. If you still feel you need a wider access to locums contact you may consider candidates you have used through agencies in the past. This can be done in several ways:
    • In some cases your exclusive arrangements with the respective agency will have expired (often this happens after 6 months), so that there are no financial or legal issues.
    • in other cases, especially if you are talking about new candidates, you may be able to ask the agency to put the candidates onto the Locum Exchange Database and charge you a reduced agency fee if you use the candidates (after all you are saving the agency time and money by accessing candidates through your Locum Exchange pool of candidates)
    • You may be able to agree on a yet further reduced agency fee if you take over complete handling of candidates' salary, PAYE, National Insurance etc. Please take into account that most agencies work with bank-like entities called factoring companies that finance the agencies' outstanding invoices often even writing and sending out invoices for the agencies - either openly in the factorer's or bank's name or less visible under the agency's name. The fees agencies have to pay these factors often run up to a sixth or a fifth of the agency commission. These percentages should in some cases be negotiable.
    • You may also wish to offer agencies a lump sum of money for putting a candidate into your pool of locums and being able to use them in the future without any agency commission.
